NACRP Education & Training Core: Challenges and Strategies

Training

NACRP offers both didactic and laboratory based training for undergraduate and graduate students. After graduation, essentially all NACRP students have entered medical or graduate programs. Graduates of these programs have now begun careers in cancer-related research or clinical oncology. Our programs are primarily designed to serve Native American students but are open to all students committed to careers focused on cancer prevention and control for Native Americans.

NACRP also offers community-based education and training programs. NACRP sponsors Continuing Medical Education seminars at IHS facilities on the Navajo Nation and through ArizonaNativeNet offers distance learning in cancer biology for health care providers.

Undergraduate Curriculum for Cancer-Related Health Care Professions

NACRP's Northern Arizona University Education Core worked in collaboration with Applied Indigenous Studies and Department of Health Sciences to develop a minor called "Interdisciplinary Indigenous Health Studies Minor," a 24 unit minor to help students learn health issues and challenges facing indigenous people. A brochure is available for this minor.
